Best Predator Games: Ranking From Worst To Best

By | Published April 19, 2023

Here is the list of the top 10 Predator games of all time, including old classics from the 80ties and the latest Predator: Hunting Grounds. The list contains many Alien vs. Predator games as well - there a not so many exclusive Predator games in the series. There is also some overlap with the list of top 10 Alien games, but the list focuses on rating the gaming experience from the Predator's perspective, either as a hunter or the hunted.

10. Predator NES

Predator NES

Predator NES is one of the first Predator games ever made and has to be included in the list. It's a typical side-scroller from the old console that tries to capitalize on the success of the movie. You play as Dutch Schaefer, who wears a pink overall for some reason. Instead of the Predator, you mostly fight animals, including snakes, squids and birds. There are some enemy soldiers as well that you can throw grenades at. The Predator shows up as mini-boss battles and you fight against his floating head in the final battle. The game is not great, but not terrible and is comparable in quality to the Alien 3 NES game.

9. Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem PSP

Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem PSP

Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem for the PSP is certainly more of a Predator game than Alien game. You play as Wolf, sent to Earth as a cleaner to purify the mess left over by the crashed Predator city near the city of Gunnison. The game is quite average clunky controls and mediocre graphics. You can take alternate paths in the levels and even alternate levels to get to the final hospital. In the final battle, you don't actually fight against the Predalien. Instead, there is a US military Apache chopper that you have to shoot down. What is great about the ending is that Wolf actually survives and flies away in his ship after the big nuke explosion. So there's a happy ending for him. Would have been nice to have that ending in the movie as well.

8. Predator: Hunting Grounds

Predator: Hunting Grounds

On paper, Predator: Hunting Grounds has the idea for the best Predator game, but unfortunately, the final result is mediocre. The game is cross-platform and offers asymmetrical gameplay, where a four-man fireteam has to complete a mission while a lone Predator observes and hunts them down. This is exactly like the first movie and even Arnold returns as an old Dutch Schaefer, however, that is pretty much all there is as the game is severely lacking in content. There is no single-player mode, which would have worked great to help with the longevity. There's only a handful of maps, all of them placed in the jungle. A city map or an exotic planet (from Predators) would have helped a lot. The fireteam and Predator customizations are great and all the main Predators from the movies are presented, although some of them come in DLC-s.

7. Aliens vs. Predator: Extinction

Aliens vs. Predator: Extinction

An RTS on consoles was never a good idea and is rare as is the case of Aliens vs. Predator: Extinction. Still, commanding Predators from the top-down perspective is fun and the game introduces several new Predator classes. The new clan members include the Stalker, Brawler, Spear Master, Hunter and a Disc Master Predators. The story takes place on LV-742 and a small conflict turns into an all-out war between Colonial Marines, Predators and Xenomorphs. Each faction features 7 missions with increasing difficulty and more frustrating controls. It is a shame this was never released on the PC as it would be much easier to play with a mouse.

6. Alien vs. Predator Jaguar

Alien vs. Predator Jaguar

Alien vs. Predator Jaguar was released in 1994 and is the first game to feature the first person POV of the Predator. The environments are a bit cramped and maze-like for the Predator's liking, but it's still an impressive experience for its time. The game features most of the legendary Predator weapons, it's cloaking ability and even vision modes. The Predator is even invisible to Aliens while cloaked, this was changed in later games. Alien vs. Predator Jaguar also featured honor points for the Predator, you get less points for killing when invisible. The game is rare to find but runs well on an emulator on the PC.

5. Alien vs. Predator Arcade

Alien vs. Predator Arcade

Aliens vs. Predator Arcade is one hell of a fun game, albeit a short one. Besides Dutch Schaefer and Linn Kurosawa, you get to play as a Predator Warrior or Predator Hunter. In addition to their own awesome weaponry, the two Predators can use the Colonial Marine arsenal, including pulse rifles and smart guns. There are huge waves of different types of Xenomorphs to fight, including several insane boss fights. Some of the most memorable boss fights are against the bad blood mad Predator and General Bush of Weyland-Yutani. Aliens vs. Predator Arcade will be re-released on the Capcom Home Arcade in October of 2019.

4. Aliens vs. Predator Classic

Aliens vs. Predator Classic

Aliens vs. Predator Classic from 1999 is a great game, but it's more of an Aliens game than a Predator one. The levels and scenarios are lifted from the Alien movies and the Predator is dropped into them. Still, it's great to be the Predator and use it's weapons and abilities on Colonial Marines and Xenomorph. The end fight against the Alien Queen where you are not allowed to use projectile weapons is awesome. The graphics still hold up great, mostly thanks to the atmospheric lighting and movie accuracy. One of the multiplayer maps features the Predator 2 slaughterhouse, but there is no jungle from the first Predator movie.

3. Aliens vs. Predator 2010

Aliens vs. Predator 2010

Aliens vs. Predator 2010 is more of a sequel to the 2 Alien vs. Predator movies than to the 2 previous games in the series. However, that does not make the game bad. It is heavily influenced by the design of the Predators, their tech and the pyramids from Paul Anderson's first movie. Some of the gore is amazing and probably the best in the game series. The 3 campaigns are a bit short and share a lot of the same levels. Still, the jungle levels are great to explore as the Predator. The graphics are still great and the multiplayer enjoyable if you can find other players to play with. This is a somewhat underrated but still good Predator game.

2. Predator: Concrete Jungle

Predator: Concrete Jungle

Predator: Concrete Jungle is one of the few Predator exclusive games in the series and should be the first one in the list. However, it is let down by really clunky controls and the fact that it was never released on the PC. The game shares the name of the first Predator comic but is actually not connected to it in any way. The story is a bit over the top but still quite enjoyable. We are introduced to the Scarface Predator, a Yautja who messes up on a hunt and has to redeem himself to his clan. The story takes place over several centuries, features some backstory of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation and even includes cameos by the Xenomorphs. Unlockable skins from the movies and mini-quests in the open areas add to the replayability.

1. Aliens vs. Predator 2

Aliens vs. Predator 2

Aliens vs. Predator 2 is the best Predator game ever and a great game overall. Although some consider Aliens vs. Predator Classic to be better, the second game offers a better Predator experience. The first few levels are large open areas with a great opportunity for hunting and trophy taking. The game has a good revenge story, with the main Predator actually being the target of revenge by General Rykov. The main Predator named Prince is powerful and charismatic, much like Scarface from Concrete Jungle. Aliens vs. Predator 2 also offers a great multiplayer experience, with different Predator classes and maps from the movies. The Primal Hunt expansion wasn't as good as the original game but is still worth checking out for the Ancient Predator and Predalien experience. The community for the game is still alive today, almost 20 years later.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Predator games offer a variety of gaming experiences, with some games that are mediocre and others that are impressive for their time. From the side-scroller Predator NES game to the latest Predator: Hunting Grounds, the Predator series has come a long way in terms of graphics, controls, and gameplay. The Alien vs. Predator games also offer unique perspectives and different ways to play as the Predator. Although the AvP games also include the Colonial Marines and Xenomorphs, they tend to be better and more fun than the Predator-only games, which there are unfortunately not that many. Finally, be sure to check out the list about the best Predator books and the best Predator comics.
