Predalien: Guide To Xenomorphs Born From Predators

By | Published April 09, 2023

The Predalien is the result of a facehugger impregnating a Predator. They are more powerful versions of the Xenomorphs, comparable in size and strength to the Praetorians, the guards of the Alien Queen. The existence of Predaliens (also called Alien-Predator hybrids) is usually a great insult to the Yautja, and they are priority targets for hunting. The Predalien is canon from the view of the Alien vs. Predator lore, but is often ignored by purists of the Alien lore and not included in Alien wikis. Here is a list of notable Predaliens and their images from the AvP lore, including the Abomination and the LV-1201 Predalien.

Mad Predator's Predalien Chestburster

The Mad Predators Predalien from the Alien vs. Predator Arcade Game

The Predalien chestburster born from the Mad Predator in the Aliens vs. Predator Arcade game had a very short life, being killed shortly after emergence from the host. It is the first Predalien being featured in an AvP game and is notable for having no clear Predator features (like dreadlocks or tusks). To give it some credit, it managed to make its host mad, so it turned against its own brethren and became a Bad blood Predator.

Area 52 Predalien

The Area 52 Predalien from Aliens vs. Predator 1999

The Predalien from Alien vs. Predator 1999 was the first 3D representation of the creature, with some interesting design concepts. It had a red skin, made pig-like sounds and moved slowly. However, it caused quite a lot of damage with it's attacks. This particular Predalien seen in the middle of the Predator campaign was born from a captured Predator in Area 52. It was held in a glass-ball-like stasis field, which triggered the bases self-destruct upon breaking. The unnamed Predator fought and killed the Predalien while tracking down his captured brother and restored honor to his clan.

Mortal Kombat Predalien Chestburster

The Mortal Kombat Predalien chestburster

Like all Mortal Kombat games, Mortal Kombat XL allows players to execute the opponent with a finishing move called a fatality by pressing a combination of keys. For the Xenomorph player, one of these fatalities involved cocooning the enemy to a nearby wall, letting him be facehugged, and witnessing a chestburster be born. If the Xenomorph executed a Predator, the infant Alien was predictably a Predalien chestburster with tusks, which is completely lore accurate. The chesturster had a worm-like body and pale skin, being covered in Yautja blood. Unfortunately, we never got to see this Predalien grow up and become a playable character. The Xenomorphs and Predators did not appear in the next Mortal Kombat (11), but were replaced with Terminator and Robocop.

Predalien Queen

The Predalien Queen from AvP: Extinction

The Predalien Queen from Aliens vs. Predator: Extinction was unique of it's kind, and not naturally born from a Predator. It was created on LV-742 by Dr. Kadinsky, after the K-series Xenomorphs. He spliced Predator DNA with a Xenomorph Queen that resulted in the Predalien Queen. The Queen itself had tusks but no dreadlocks. Its brownish color was more in line with the other Predaliens in the list. Most of the time, the Queen was attached to and egg sack and moved slowly when separated from it. This Predelien was ordered to be hunted down by the Ancient Predator council, and its skull was later placed in the Predator's shrine.

Dave Dorman's Predalien

Dave Dormans Predalien

In the mid- 90ties, the legendary artist Dave Dorman was hired by 20th Century Fox to design the first Predalien for the upcoming Alien vs. Predator movie based on Peter Bigg's script. The project fell apart but was later picked up by Paul Anderson who managed to release AvP in 2004. Dave Dorman's first Predalien doesn't have any lore-based backstory, but its design is a big influence on all the Predaliens that came after it. The lighter colored spiked body, dreadlocks and tusks would become a staple for the later Predaliens. Dave Dorman even commented that he wasn't happy with getting no credit for the later designs in the games and movies, especially in Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem.

Cursed Earth Predalien

The Crused Earth Predalien from Predator vs. Judge Dredd vs. Aliens: Splice and Dice

The Cursed Earth Predalien from Predator vs. Judge Dredd vs. Aliens: Splice and Dice was born from a lone Predator who was hunted down and captured by the henchmen of the Dr. Reinstöt. The mad scientist found a Xenomorph skull onboard the Predators ship and managed to extract Xenomorph DNA from it, creating Alien eggs. The resulting Predalien was a tough creature with a classic Predalien look including dreadlocks and tusks. Judge Dredd joined forces with 4 other Predators looking for their lost brother, intending to bring down Dr. Reinstöt and his abnormal creations. During their fight in Cursed Earth, the Predalien was decimated by a plasmacaster blast.

LV-412 Predalien

The LV-412 Predalien

The Predalien from the AvP: Evolution mobile game is the last Predalien seen in the AvP games. The game actually features two distinct Predaliens, one born from a regular Yautja, and the other born from the Super Predator. The Super Predator Predalien was called a Berserker Alien and featured darker skin with a red blister on it's forehead. The regular Predalien had a more classic design. Both of them were not playable characters and served as antagonists for the Predator character. Unfortunately, the game is not available anymore in the Android or iOS stores.

Ryushi Predalien

The Ryushi Predalien

After the events of the first Aliens vs. Predator comic series on Ryushi, another infestation spread on the planet in Aliens vs. Predator: Duel. This time it involved a Predalien, born from an unconscious Predator on a crashed Yautja ship. In fact, it was the first Predalien being featured in any of the Alien vs. Predator comics. In line with Alien 3, the creature evolved with the DNA reflex, taking it's hosts traits. The Predalien fought Colonial Marines and the Yautja called Light-Stepper, while finally being taken down by Pulse Rifle and Plasma Caster fire. The surviving human and Yautja held a short truce after successfully killing the creature together.

Gunnison Predalien

The Gunnison Predalien from Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem

Born from Scar Predator, this Predalien was featured in both Alien vs. Predator movies, being just a cameo at the end of the first one. It killed at least 2 Yautja on the Predator scout ship and caused it to crash near Gunnison, Colorado. The Predalien showed features more similar to a Xenomorph Queen, being able to impregnate hosts directly through its mouth. It fought the Wolf Predator to a fatal stalemate, and died when a nuke was dropped on the town by the US military. This Predalien was perhaps the most vicious of the whole list, impregnating already pregnant women with Xenomorphs, showing the bad taste of the filmmakers.

Abomination Predalien

The Abomination from Aliens vs. Predator 2010

The Abomination from Aliens vs. Predator 2010 was a powerful Predalien born from the Wolf Predator on BG-386. Its existence was a great insult to the Yautja hunting party. The Abomination attacked Dark Predator at the end of his campaign, when Dark returned his ancestor's mask to an ancient temple. They fell to the bottom of the temple, where lava was emerging from the ground. After a difficult fight, the Abomination was killed and Dark left the planet while the temple exploded. The Abomination looked a bit more like a tradition Xenomorph, but still had tusks and small dreadlocks.

LV-1201 Predalien

The Predalien from AvP2: Primal Hunt

The Predalien main character from Aliens vs. Predator 2: Primal Hunt was perhaps the only Predalien to survive their endeavors. It was born from a facehugged Ancient Predator, another main character from the 3 campaigns of the game. The Predalien wreaked havoc even as a chestburster. As a fully grown Xenomorph, it caused the downfall of the Pod 5 complex, which was later seen crashed in the main Aliens vs. Predator 2 game. It escaped to the surface of the planet with its fellow Aliens and hasn't been seen again.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Predalien is a unique and powerful creature that is born from the impregnation of a Predator by a facehugger. They are comparable in size and strength to the Praetorians, and their existence is considered an insult to the Yautja. Many variations of the Predalien exists, but most versions agree on them having both dreadlocks and mandibles, which are passed on from the Yautja anatomy. The Predalien is canon from the perspective of the Alien vs. Predator lore but is often ignored by purists of the Xenomorph lore.
